English Spanish Scientific Name
Galapagos Tortoise Tortuga Geochelone elephanyophus

Endemic: they think there might have been 14 species of Giant Tortoises with 3 being extinct.  There are two types of shells, the dome-shaped and the saddle-shaped shell.  In this picture you can note the shell shape of the tortoise, it is a dome-shaped.  The reason for the difference between the two shells is because those who have a dome-shaped shell eat the vegetation closer to the ground.  Those tortoise with a saddleback shape, like Lonesome George, need to reach higher places for food.
