There are seven species of this endemic lava lizards in the
Galapagos.
Almost all of the Islands have at least one species living there, all but Genovesa, Wolf and Darwin. All lizards vary in color, shape and
behavior. Lizards living on darker lava as opposed to lighter lava are
darker in color. There is also an obvious distinction between the female
and male lizard in that the female has a red or orange neck as seen in this
picture. Note the color of the lava she is on as opposed to the lava
of the other lava lizard pictures below. Also, look at the difference
in the two other lava lizards below, one male is photographed in Santa Cruz
and the other in Isabela
