Endemic: there are two
species of land iguanas in the Galapagos and one of those species is only
found in Santa Fe Island. The iguana found in Santa Fe is normally
lighter in color. The main meal for the Iguana is cactus fruit and
pads. These animals can grow to be 13 meters in length. Land
Iguanas can be found in Santa Cruz, South Plazas, Santa Fe and North
Seymour. Iguanas were taken to Seymour Island from Baltra in the 1930s
because they started to disappear shortly after the US set-up an airbase in
Baltra Island. Currently the Iguanas are being reintroduced back into
Baltra. Look for the Iguana by the cafeteria at the airport in Baltra.
