Endemic: the sad face of this sea lion is loved
by all tourists that come to the Galapagos. The sea lion is a
subspecies of the sea lions found in California. Normally playful in the
water, they can also be aggressive at times. Always please take
caution of the male sea lion while in the water. The picture on the
left is a female sea lion, who does not have a bump on her forehead.
You can tell the difference between the sea lion and fur seal because the
sea lion is larger in size, and has a larger snout. They are also seen
basking in the sun and posing for pictures on the beach. There are
between 5000 to 10,000 individuals in the Islands and can be seen throughout
the archipelago.
